Introduction to Berachain

Berachain is a Layer 1 blockchain that combines EVM-identical execution with a novel Proof of Liquidity (PoL) consensus mechanism. Unlike EVM-compatible chains, Berachain maintains full synchronization with Ethereum's execution layer, enabling integration with Ethereum toolsets and compatibility with future Ethereum upgrades.

The chain implements a PoL consensus mechanism that aims to address liquidity challenges in emerging blockchains. The mechanism works as follows:

1. Liquidity providers deposit capital into ecosystem reward vaults, receiving $BGT (non-transferable governance token)

2. $BGT holders can:

   • Delegate to validators for $BERA (gas token) rewards

   • Burn $BGT directly for $BERA

3. Validators with highest $BGT holdings influence reward distribution across liquidity pools

4. This creates a feedback loop between liquidity provision and consensus
